PEAKS
Volunteers
The first volunteer group, PEAKS, is a fundraising organization. PEAKS
stands for "People Everywhere Are Kind and Sharing." These volunteers
conduct charitable events throughout the year to raise money for
patients of both the Northern Rockies Radiation Oncology Center and Big Horn Basin
Radiation Oncology Center.
Most grants range from $50 to $800, and are applied toward costs
associated with treatment. PEAKS funds are not applied to bills for
cancer treatment, but instead offer a helping hand with lodging,
meals, child care, gasoline costs, household basics, and some
medications. Over the years, PEAKS has helped hundreds of families
from both Montana and Wyoming through grants totaling more than
$200,000. All funds raised by PEAKS volunteers go directly to patients
and are not used to finance Center operations.
Big Horn Basin Radiation Oncology Center patients wishing to apply for a PEAKS
grant may visit with either the nurse or the therapy staff. A simple
grant application form is available from the Social Worker in
Billings (phone 1-800-358-8818). This form can be mailed to you or
faxed to the Big Horn Basin Radiation Oncology Center.
In addition to PEAKS funding, there are other financial aid resources
for cancer patients.
To learn more, please check with the Social Worker at the Northern
Rockies Radiation Oncology Center, 1-800-358-8818.

Friends of the Center
This group is composed of volunteers who like having direct contact with patients at the Center. The volunteers are folks who’ve found they have a little bit of time on their hands and want to give something back to the community by being of service to others. Tasks are as simple as bringing a cup of coffee to a new patient or as lively as helping prepare packets for a committee meeting. For more information, call 248-2212 and ask for the Coordinator of Volunteers.

Befrienders
This is a special group of people who provide hospitality to guests of Meadowlark House (Meadowlark House is the Center’s lodging facility). Some guests feel overwhelmed by Billings and appreciate a little help getting groceries or finding a post office. Some are grateful for a simple “how are you doing” phone call from one of our Befrienders. If an occasion role as a Befriender appeals to you, contact our Coordinator of Volunteers at 248-2212.
